Jon Wa$hak penciled and inked this face . . .
. , and I added the 'brown strip' down the middle.
Some feedback I got from a lot of editors when trying to break into comics was that my style looked too derivative of Bernie Wrightson.
It took several years to find my own style.
I really like some of the textures in this one.
Especially the stringy stuff in the upper right corner.
Maybe I should do a Maxx piece in this style?
My old friend Jon has been consistently and diligently amassing an impressive body of work with illustrations ( like the one bellow ), in a series of breathtaking sketchbooks called MYOPIA:

Here's The Maxx/Julie/Snake Cover again, and some postcard images.
Tomorrow it's back to regular ( meaning I'm not bugging you to buy stuff ) blog posts again.
This Cover is different in several ways.
First the Maxx is pretty abstract, even for me.
Second is that's an actual plastic dolls eye pasted onto the painting.
Third is the majority of it is in pastel, which is rare for me as I usually use watercolor or acrylics.

Just throwing up another Calendar pic. Thanks to everybody out there we've gone far beyond our initial goal amount.
So don't feel obligated to order anymore, but don't tell the kickstarter company I said that. : )
Batman-Maxx issues 4 and 5 finally came out. Gosh, I can't imagine what, ( or who ), . . the hold up was?
Everything at once, eh? Don't feel obligates to buy these too, just wait for the trade which collects all 5 issues instead.
Or just skip all this Calendar & Comic Book madness and instead just keep checking out the blog for free.
Seriously though, thanks to all you supporters of the Calendar Kickstarter stuff.
Okay, the campaign for the Maxx Calendar Goes Live Monday *Morning* Nov. ninth at 8:50 AM!

Kinda cool - I've never done one of these Kickstarter things before! We'll see how it goes.
Here's the printed Calendar Cover along side the Original Art. The printed version is a darker color purple, but that's partly my scan of it too.
Here's a few more Calendar pages I took some pics of.
Just Four Days until the Maxx Calendar Kickstarter Goes Live:

To tide you over during the wait,
here's some pics of an advance copy that came in this package.
It's a lot bigger than I expected.
Sorry about the flash.
Some of the Calendar art was printed larger than the original art, so it hold up pretty good, considering.
Okay, I'll throw up some more pics over the weekend.
