Second Dino Cover

Another cover that probably looks better in black and white.

Gallery Sketches

Finishing a dozen or so sketches for Graphitti's Batman collection of my work.

Here's one.

Long Lost Freddy story

Mandy years ago I did a back cover for the first issue of Marvel's Nightmare on Elm B&W Magazine - (splash on left).

Peter David wrote a short story that i drew for issue 2,  but the book was canceled - and you can see where i stopped inking the story once i was told.

I don't even remember what happened to the original art. These crude photo copies i made . . .  are all that remains of this aborted project.

A couple of 'Moores'.

A 'collage/pin-up' of legendary comic book writer Alan Moore,

. . . and female detective Agatha Moore.

( never underestimate a sock full of pennies as a weapon! )

Unpublished Wolvie Cover

I don't remember why this MCP cover wasn't used.

Kinda different "dreamy" feel to this one, rather than my usual black and white style, eh?

Early Sandman

Original unpublished art for a Sandman 1 cover, which i later found a home in the IbeforeE short stories collection.

I also gave him bird feet, for no reason in particular.

Rare Maxx art.

Here's something that's never been printed in a comic book, because i painted it especially for the old animated Maxx series.

This is why it's so long horizontally, for a slow camera pan.

Kinda interesting.

"Boy with the Metal Arm"

Another unmade Corman era relic, this production drawing i did for "Boy..." ... was for an unmade movie Roger asked me to direct .. my art here sorta has a Wrightson-y brush work feel to it, only cruder.

It's amazing all the art that piles up from unmade Features and Television pitches.  I was spoiled by the unusual amount of control we had over the Maxx animated series.  Follies of youth.

I still have the rights, so maybe i'll do it as a comic someday?

Or not.

Maybe my time & energy is best spent elsewhere.

Caddies & Dino cover Question?

Drew three different Cadillacs & Dinosaurs covers for a reprint my old friend Mark Shultz's excellent Xenozoic Tales comic. Few artists do justice to the Williamson/Frazetta tradition as well as Mark.

I'll throw up my other two Dino covers over the next few weeks.

----

UPDATED ADDITION:

Dug out a the colors i hand painted on what they called a "blue-line", meaning all the black art is in light blue so you know where to paint.

Kinda interesting to see the colored art minus the blacks.

And here's the printed comic cover.

So which do you like better?

The colored version,

. . . or black and white original art version at the top?

Abstracts again?

Yeah, i need to balance out all those popular "animal on brown paper" posts . . .

with a few annoying abstracts ones, just to keep you on your toes.

Every notice this . . . ?

Seems i have a continuing habit of drawing weird creatures with hunched-over backs.

What's up with that?

Two Fingers

As a little girl Nola remembers had dad having two missing fingers.

I added this from real life, as a kid my grand-dad had a couple fingers missing from an work related accident.  May sound weird, but since i grew up with it, i never gave it a second thought.

Funny the unusual things you associate with affection and nostalgia.

Prehistoric Gone

Came across this half-finished drawing on the back of some paper.

Early doodles of Mr. Gone.

The blue pencil's a giveaway it was drawn well before i started drawing Maxx.  I notice he had a smaller beard,  ugly polk-a-dot shirt, several double chins.

No clue what the little electronic devise is on the ground was supposed to be.

Funny the old crap you find while digging through your studio.

Eleanor 5 Cover

Wanted to try something subtle for the last cover, so i drew a more detailed image of Eleanor, (with a little extra weight added, since she gains a few pounds in the book)

I decided to draw her from the back on a separate piece of bristol board, so i wouldn't cover the original abstract image.

I could have cut her out by hand and pasted her in, but instead i added her digitally over the abstract painting that i drew so many years ago.

Z- Girl cover

IDW's reprinting the Four Woman & Zero-Girl trades, so thought I'd throw this Zero-Girl reprint cover, without the logo . .  and a new 'sidebar' image, just for fun.

Disturbing painting

I always found this one kinda unsettling,

which - given how weird my stuff usually is - says a lot.

Bribing Charon

It's usually those lucky dead folks who are granted passage to the underworld.

But it seems a few coins can usually change Charon's mind.

Bats for CBLDF Charity

. . unpublished Batman sketch for an IDW auction for the fine folks at comic book legal defense fund.

Funny books are a surprisingly small industry,

we need to take care of our own.
