Nola: Fashion - in Four Pieces

Here's the original drawing, before I divided it up into four pieces.

Magik Twout City

Detail of one of the city buildings . .

. . . and the full image.

My Inner Bimbo - Two Versions

In some ways, maybe the simpler sketches . . .

. . actually might convey more than the overly-rendered finished version?

Nola: Floating Eye

Here's an oldie

. . . yet another page from the endlessly delayed 'Nola' project.

Maxx 32 Cover - B&W

This piece started as poster in the 90s, but few fans noticed it,

so later I decided to hand color it and make it a Maxx cover 32.

Here's the black and white version.

Golden Twout City

Another Twout related City,

along with an early pencil sketch of it below . .

. . . plus various check-list scribbling.

Twout Mwagik City

Mwagik City with Twout-style architecture. (Those pesky W's don't just replace the letter R in word Trout, but W's also pop up for no good reason in other words like "magik".  Such are the mysteries of the Twout-a-verse.)

Po

The little girl from the Hulk-Wolverine mini series I did a long time ago.

Mystery Cover

Three of my favorite images.

Looks like a cover for something . . .

. . trouble is,

I'm just not sure for what.

Last of the Dr. Weird stuff.

Figured I'd show a few of the more interesting panels,

instead of showing the whole page,

the details in a whole page would probably just get lost on a iphone.

Venus/FOM/Nola: Bison Comparison

From the 'Venus/FOM/Nola' project (FOM is 'Friends of Maxx')

On the Left is a hand painted version,

and the Right is darker, digitally tweaked version with a watercolored background dropped in.

Which one do you like better?

Dr Weird Page, and Exploring Textures.

As an experiment , I tried to  blend in my own hand drawn textures with cut-outs from photos of food and other micro sized textures.

Not to fool anyone, the difference between pen/brush and real life photos are obvious.

But more as an exorcise . .  to better understand textures.

Underground Comix Cover

Before I broke into comics, I was always drawing comic book covers for a stories that I was too lazy to actually finish.

This was one of those.

Dr Weird - from 'I before E vol. 2'

Here's an unpublished Dr Strange parody i did during my small press days,

which later found a home in  the currently out of print 'I before E'  collections.  But their pretty cheap on eBay.

I'm too lazy to dig out and scan the originals,  so here's a cleaned up version from the book.

Maxx - Early Costume Sketch - 3

The sleeveless shirt and B&W mask & tights didn't last long.

The pony tail soon morphed into the 'feathered head-dress' for the Outback version of Maxx.

Old Maxx Sketches - 2

Julia's face wasn't there yet.

Still playing around with Maxx and Gone.

And the Maxx logo too.

Vintage Maxx Sketches - 1

Early versions of Maxx were blurred with the 'pot-bellied' Outback creatures.

His claws were still kinda hazy too.

Helpfull Sandman

The fine folks at the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund needed something for their SDCC Charity Auction.

I found this lying in the back off my closet. Slightly smudged, but not too shabby.

I signed it, stuffed it in an envelope -

and hopefully it will do some good for someone.

When The . . .

. . Chickens Revolt is an online strip I do with Jon Way$hak . .

like everything else on my plate, it's horribly late.

But it should be an interesting book once it's . . *guilty cough* . . . finished . .

and collected as a trade.

Jungle Queen Cover

There's this...

.. and another,  for a top view.

May have got a little carried way on this one,  'abstraction-wise'.

A Tale of Two Twouts

Frenetic 'tooth-brush' version . .

. . and a classic 'Giger-esque' look.

Hand-coloring parts of comic book panels.

Kinda odd: Painting one panel in color,

Or even just a single tree.

Dunno if any other comic artist did this kinda goofy stuff or not.  Kinda makes the original art interesting to look at though.
