Warming to Chickens.

I was slow to warm up in my first few When The Chickens Revolt pages.

This is the first one where I think I hit my stride.

Another Batman-Maxx page.

Yeah, I know it's crazy late, my apologies for that.

Promise I'll make it worth the wait.

Ojo sketch-book stuff

Early sketches of baby Ojo .

He looked very different and even had a mouth.

His wooden box was much wider too.

Mom's Red Eye

Annie believed her Mom's 'Red Eyed Monster'  in a drain pip,   a concept dating back to the Ojo mini series.

Later Nola has the same confusion with red eyes and mother issues that Annie had,

Only Nola's mother is still alive, and the Eye is more complex and less of a monster.

Likewise, my illustration of the Mom's Red Eye . . . changed over the years about became more abstract too.

Maxx 35

Lot of history between these two.

Gone has a conversation with Glorie before the world ends.

( or at least . . . their particular 'Bubble'. )

Watercolor Tree, Phase Four

I hope I don't sound too pretentious in these posts.

Tons of  folks do watercolors, and many are way more talented and skilled than I am.

Despite my artistic limitations,  I'd like to think i might inspire other potential self-taught artists to try new stuff.

If a wonky artists like me can get this far, then imagine what even *more* awesome stuff other artists' will do!

Watercolor Tree, Phase Three

You know, an argument could be made that this tree couldn't be finished - right here - at this stage.

Could have been more gutsy to do that. But that's not what happened.

Instead, I pressed on, adding more texture as I went. This pic too, too, could have been a junction to quit - but such was not to be.

Only one more post to see what the final *finished* Tree looks like.

Watercolor Tree, Phase Two

Using Doc Martin's watercolor dyes here.

Unfortunatly they tend to fade over time, so they won't look as vibrant as they do right here, while their wet.

Using a fan brush here to add some more texture.

Watercolor Tree, Phase One

I've posted this before, but I figure it's worth re-posting.

I have to surrender control with Watercolor, so there's lots of room mistakes.

But any mistakes can also totally change the course of the paintings.

Wet - in - Wet . . . this will become something.

. . . actually it already has,

this is an old pic of me starting a painting

that's was finished many years ago.

Crude?

'De Stijl' is an art style I did my own bastardized version of here.

I have to thank Jon Way$ak for pushing me to do things outside of what I'd normally do in the Chickens project.

Here's another example from Eleanor.

Even if it fails, i still never wanna be afraid of trying something new.

Looking Back . .

Digging through some of my moldy old art . . .

 . . I cancel myself, trying to find a mainstream style . .

but also reverting to my Distorted/Underground/Abstract pre-super hero roots.

I kept gravitating towards a few basic shapes . .

. .  looking to pour all the detail into those simple geometric shapes.

floundering, struggling, hoping one day . .

. . . to Break Through,

. . and find a style of my own.

Healthy Appetite

. .  taken from the PDF.. (which explains the red lines).

Sorry for the late post today, juggling a lot of non-comic stuff on my plate right now.

Promise to get my act together a.s.a.p.
